HUD SAYS PERSONS LACKING 3rd PARTY DOCUMENTATION of HOMELESSNESS MUST NOT BE DENIED ADMISSION to SHELTER

There seems to be some confusion as to what is required to enter a shelter that utilizes HUD funding.  The answer is that no documentation is required.  You will be required to sign a statement that you are homeless, but that is all that is needed if you do not have other 3rd party documentation, such as an eviction notice.  Signing the statement that you are homeless is sufficient proof for HUD that you are homeless.  HUD also does not require proof of identity, citizenship, residency in a particular city or county or a background check to be admitted to shelter.  There are other HUD funded programs that require certain third party documentation but shelter does not.  Please see this February 2015 FAQ from HUD for details.
